Khalapur Science Centre gets a new Electronic Lab, thanks to Applied Materials India

The day began earlier than most days for the Pratham Science Team in Khalapur, rising and bustling to prepare for the inauguration that was to happen later that day. On 26th August, 2019, Om Nalamasu, CTO of Applied Materials, inaugurated the Electronic Lab of the Science Program at the Pratham Science Centre in Khalapur that will benefit over 3000 students in the area. Following this, a science fair was arranged, where a bunch of very enthusiastic children presented the science models to the Aplied Materials team.

Speaking on this occasion, our very own—Jayashree Mane, Program Head of Science Intervention in Pratham said, “Every student deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Our Vigyan Mitras at Pratham have implemented this program to pique the interest of students by introducing scientific concepts in a fun and exciting manner.” She expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Applied Materials team, for supporting Pratham in running of the centre.

Finally, Om Nalamasu, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Applied Materials, Inc. addressed the children, “Applied Materials is pleased to support the valuable work of Pratham as it helps nurture the learning and development of children in underserved communities. We hope the new Centre inspires the next generation of scientists and inventors by showing children how science can shape the future of our world.”

There are a number of reasons that the learning levels in this area is low, mainly– socioeconomics, difficult topography and lack of connectivity. This center, hence, caters to the children of Raigad, by giving the surrounding communities a space to learn scientific concepts in a fun and enriching manner. This center also has a mobile science van which will reach children in the more inaccessible areas.
