Haryana
Pratham began operations in Haryana in 2005 through direct interventions in 77 villages in the Nagina block of Mewat district. The objective of the program was to improve learning levels of children and mainstream out-of-school children. Today Pratham is present in 8 districts and both Direct programs and Read India are being implemented in the state. The key programs undertaken include:
- Direct Programs: Balwadis, libraries and learning support classes are running in the slums of Gurgaon and Mewat reaching approximately 2000 children each month.
- Read India is running in 8 districts of the state. The program is both school based and community based, with 1825 classes running in the community and 718 classes running in schools. The total number of children being reached are 1,165,685.
- English program: was started in 2008 in Gurgaon. 40 classes are currently running and over 1000 children are being reached through the program.
