Coverage
Coverage: internal tracking devices and formats have been devised for each of the programs for every region. Monthly figures for all the programs are compiled across all locations and analyzed on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to monitor the number of units, the number of children enrolled, the break-up of the enrolled children across age-group and gender and the attendance figures. For Read India we also monitor the number of villages covered in each district, the number of children reached, the amount of teacher learning material distributed, the number of teachers and volunteers trained etc. Monthly narrative reports sent by each region, detailing the activities undertaken, supplement this data. All these reports are complied and reviewed regularly by a National Program Monitoring Team.

The above graph shows the increase in the number of children covered by direct programs from Jan 2004 till March 2009. Direct program units comprise of pre-school classes, learning support classes for both in-school and out-of-school children and mainstreaming of out of school children. Separate numbers are also available for each of these programs and for each state. These numbers have been obtained after consolidating data from each state.
The above graph shows the increase in the number of books borrowed through Pratham run libraries from January 2004 to March 2009. The number has increased from 100,000 in Jan 2004 to 400,000 in Feb 2009.
We pilot tested our English program in 2007 and since then the number of classes have been expanding across the country. The number of classes have increased from 576 to 2500 (approx.) and are now running in 10 locations across the country.
