Pratham began working in the state of West Bengal in 2007. Some key programmes are:
Read India is active in 10 blocks across 10 districts.
Science fairs and workshops are active in a few locations across the state as part of Pratham's Science programme.
Learn India pilot is currently being conducted in 10 blocks.


Special Programmes

The Pratham Supported Schools programme is active in 3 locations focusing on English, arithmetic, and life skills.
ITC Ltd. funds a special project called 'Read India Plus' that focuses on improving learning levels of children in pre-school till Std. 8. The programme is currently operational near the factory locations in Kolkata and Hooghly.

Government Tie Ups

In 2013, Pratham collaborated with UNICEF to enter into a partnership with the West Bengal government. The School Education Department of West Bengal currently implements the Early Literacy & Numeracy Programme to improve the quality of education in backward districts of the state. Pratham will provide training and monitoring support.


In 2015, the collaboration was scaled up to work with children in Std. 1 and 2 in government primary schools.
