About Program

Started in 2005 in Maharashtra, Pratham’s Science Learning Program was scaled up to the national level in 2010. In India, current teaching-learning practices revolve around rote learning and this problem is further exacerbated while teaching subjects like science, which requires innovation and hands-on learning for effective comprehension. The challenge intensifies owing to the inadequacy of basic equipment, tools, and infrastructure which facilitate a more immersive and engaging learning process.

Hence, Pratham’s Science Learning Program is designed to bridge the gap between children’s curiosity about scientific concepts and the available resources by providing a platform to ‘learn by doing’. This intervention aims to foster curiosity and stimulate a scientific temper among children, while also establishing a sustainable, community-driven learning environment. The impact of the pandemic is increasingly visible across the country, and the necessity of engaging children in a hands-on learning approach is greater than ever.
