About Role

This position will hold responsibility for the overall accounting at state/project level. Detailed responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following broad areas:

Role & Responsibility

Audit Planning and Execution

  • Develop and implement an annual internal audit plan.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify areas of high risk within the organization.
  • Execute internal audit engagements

Risk Management and Control

  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls
  • Identify areas of potential operational improvement
  • Provide recommendations to enhance the organization’s risk management processes

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, donor requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and report on the implementation of audit recommendations
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and best practices in internal auditing and non-profit governance.  

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with the Finance and Program teams to understand processes and identify risks.
  • Communicate audit findings and recommendations to senior management.

Continuous Improvement

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of audit processes.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

Educational / Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance/CA/Semi-qualified CA 
  • At least 3 years of experience in internal auditing, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Highly proficient with accounting software.
  • Proficient with MS Office, including word, excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English or Hindi and regional language.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
