About Learning for Life
Pratham’s curriculum is divided into 3 major domains – Learning for School, Learning for Life and Learning for Work. Started in 2018 with a simple motive to go beyond school curriculum and encourage the innate creativity and curiosity among children in rural India, Learning for Life domain focuses on building 21st century skills, promoting physical and mental wellbeing and creating environmental consciousness among children and youth for a sustainable future. It is based on a 4Ex framework – Expose, Explore, Experiment and Exchange. This involves creating age appropriate digital learning content, running awareness campaigns in communities and schools, organizing workshops, conducting various courses and activities for children and youth.
About Fitness Program
To promote physical and mental well being, the Learning for Life Domain plans to develop School and Community Based Fitness Programs for children (10 to 14 years) and youth (14+ age) in various geographies across rural India. These would include a variety of sports, dance forms and physical activities that involve movement, spread happiness, build stamina, coordination and flexibility. The program will be driven by youth volunteers and school teachers. Fitness is a new theme under development in the Learning for Life domain. In the current year, Pratham in collaboration with sports and dance organizations aims to conduct a fitness and sports program in schools and communities across different Pratham locations.
Position Summary
The Learning Designer, Fitness Program position is looking for motivated and energetic individuals who believe that physical fitness in various forms should be an integral part of a child’s growth within and beyond the school environment.
The Learning Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, piloting and implementing a comprehensive fitness experience tailored to the needs and interests of children and youth. The ideal candidate will have a background in any sport or dance form, experience in sports education and/or fitness curriculum development with a passion for children’s health and development.
The person will work closely with the Lead, Learning for Life domain to design the program and fitness curriculum, create digital learning content and the implementation strategies to achieve the program goals. The role requires extensive travel to various project sites.
The main responsibilities of Learning Designer, Fitness Program are as follows:
- Design and Development of Fitness Experience
- Develop a comprehensive fitness curriculum and program suitable for the target age groups. This includes research and evaluation of available/emerging technologies, tools and activities.
- Actively seek out new partnerships with NGOs, individuals, academies and/or government at the district, state and regional levels through cold calling, networking, social media and other means as required.
- Research, interact and collaborate with different stakeholders to design the fitness curriculum, development of technology and other tools.
- Test, pilot and modify the curriculum and program to ensure quality, cultural relevance and impact.
- DIgital Content Development and Training
- Work closely with the Team Lead and external subject experts to design impactful digital learning resources like lesson plans, activity guides, and instructional materials.
- Curate and/or create engaging multimedia content with Pratham’s media and graphics team including videos, animations, and interactive elements.
- Write WhatsApp messages, nudges, simple prompts for youth volunteers, teachers and Pratham team members
- Conduct comprehensive training workshops for various stakeholders, including Pratham team members, school teachers, and representatives from partnering organizations.
- Program Implementation:
- Oversee the rollout of the fitness program across multiple rural locations.
- Work closely with various stakeholders to ensure smooth functioning of the program, regular data collection and evaluation
- Monitor ongoing interventions and programs through in-person visits and data analysis tools, to assess effectiveness, progress and impact and adjust/tweak interventions based on relevant feedback
- Directly engage with the beneficiaries, utilizing methods such as surveys, focus group discussions, and storytelling to assess program effectiveness.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of curriculum development, training sessions, and program implementation.
- Compile and present consolidated observations and insights to inform content design, program implementation, and strategic decision-making.
- Prepare regular reports on program progress, outcomes, and areas for improvement
- Document success stories through both written narratives and visual medium for sharing with donors and the broader community.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Minimum graduation degree in any discipline
- Background in any form of sports, fitness, dance and/or fitness education is desirable
- Demonstrated experience in learning experience design/ content development/ curriculum design, or program implementation
- Ability to contribute both qualitatively and quantitatively to designing and creating impactful learning strategies and resources
- Passionate about the cause and proactive in leading a project, identifying challenges and showcasing the ability to design and execute solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Hindi. Functional knowledge of Marathi would be advantageous
- Strong organizational and project management abilities with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
- Willingness to travel extensively across rural India
