About the English Program

The English Program works along three primary domains:

  1. Developing compelling course content and engaging learning materials

  2. Building and reinforcing teachers’ capacities via online and offline workshops

  3. Testing content feasibility, tracking field progress, and documenting program outcomes

Internship Description

We are seeking dedicated interns to join the English Program to contribute to the development of engaging and effective educational content and TLMs (teaching learning materials) for English Language Learners aged 6-14 years. This role is ideal for applicants who are passionate about education, language learning, and creating accessible resources for diverse learning environments.

Key Deliverables

  1. Contribute to the development of high-quality educational content and materials suitable for learners (children aged 6-14 years learning English as an additional language) in low-resourced settings, ensuring alignment with our learning outcomes and standards. This would include creating stories, worksheets, lesson plans, activities, and some multimedia resources.

  2. Adapt and modify existing content and materials to align with the specific needs and contexts of different programs, ensuring consistency with goals and standards.

  3. Review, edit, and refine the materials to ensure accuracy and improve outcomes.

  4. Collaborate with other content developers, trainers, and teachers at Pratham to brainstorm, research, and integrate pedagogical trends and best practices in English language acquisition.

  5. Pilot newly developed content and materials created to determine their effectiveness in real educational settings.

  6. Conduct detailed analyses of textbooks and educational materials used in government schools for teaching English, evaluating their content, structure, and instructional effectiveness.

Duration, Location, and Working Hours

This internship will last a minimum of 8 to 10 weeks and is based at the Pratham Education Foundation’s office in Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi. Interns are required to work from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We are open to discussing alternative schedules to accommodate special circumstances.

Who we are looking for

The ideal intern should be proficient in English, showcasing exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills, with a strong grasp of grammar and an extensive vocabulary. Further, they should be fluent in either Hindi or any other regional language.

They should possess the ability to seamlessly translate complex concepts into simple, engaging, and understandable instructional content, catering to children of varying proficiency levels. They should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and excellent organisational and time management skills.

Qualifications

Required

  1. Undergraduate, Graduate in any discipline preferably in English Literature, English Language Teaching, Education with a focus on language learning or ESL (English as a Second Language)

  2. Knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint

Desired

  1. Past experience in teaching and/or developing educational content for English Language Learners

  2. Experience with educational technology and digital learning platforms

  3. Knowledge of graphic design software such as Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
