About Pratham
Pratham Education Foundation (Pratham) is one of the largest education NGOs in India with a record of innovative, rigorously evaluated programs that have inspired similar programs across three continents. With a history spanning 30 years, Pratham’s work today extends from programs for early and elementary years to girls and women, and youth skilling. Through programs covering 24 states and Union Territories, in an average year, Pratham usually reaches over 7 million children and youth. This is achieved through a combination of efforts: directly working with children and youth in communities, as well as through collaborations with state and district-level governments.
Pratham has received notable awards such as the Lui Che Woo Prize, WISE Prize for Innovation, Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Henry R Kravis Prize in Leadership and the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year for Public Service. About the Team
The Measurement, Monitoring and Evaluation Team (MME), established in 2013, has played an integral role in ensuring that Pratham, its partners in the community and government have analytically and effectively acted upon using data generated from these programs.
The MME team has built and sustained a culture of data-backed decision making within Pratham and its partners. The central team of more than 20 team members sets the measurement agenda and works closely with nearly 60 state MME associates to ensure rigorous and timely implementation of data systems and processes in the field. The evidence this team produces is what Pratham’s leadership uses to decide what to scale, what to fix, and what to stop.
We are a young, competitive team drawn from consulting firms, analytics, assessment, tech companies, research organizations and leading academic programs. We are data enthusiasts who like asking uncomfortable questions and answering them with evidence — analytical rigour, structured thinking and a low tolerance for handwaving are the norm here.
Roles and Responsibilities
This is a problem-solving role, not a reporting role. We are looking for self-driven professionals who can structure ambiguous problems, work in a fast-changing environment, and create lasting impact using data and insights. We want individuals who want to: get their hands dirty, break down dynamic real-world problems, ask tough questions and build practical solutions to drive the team and organization forward. At MME, we believe in giving end-to-end ownership of one or more programs — from framing the question to defending the recommendation in front of leadership — where we expect you to:
- Understand field realities and data requirements — spend time on the ground with teams, children and government partners to know what the numbers actually mean.
- Conceptualise and drive measurement & monitoring frameworks: define the questions worth asking, the indicators that answer them, and the thresholds for action.
- Design and roll out data collection systems that work at scale across thousands of field staff, balancing rigour with what is practical on the ground.
- Analyse and visualise data that drives decisions at all levels — from a block coordinator’s weekly plan to the leadership’s annual strategy.
- Structure and present recommendations to senior leadership, government counterparts and funders, and make the case for them.
- Inform program strategy, drive efficient implementation, and track whether the change you recommended actually worked.
Educational Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or higher in any field (Engineering, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics); a strong quantitative grounding matters more than the discipline.
Skills and Experience
- 2-4 years of full-time work experience, preferably in management consulting, strategy, business or product analytics, market research, or another analytics-centric role.
- Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous problems, analyse complex information, extract insights, and use them to inform strategic decisions and programmatic approaches.
- Comfort owning a workstream independently and managing multiple stakeholders — central and state teams, government officials, and funders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Hindi (spoken) is essential. You should be able to build a crisp deck and defend it in a room with senior leadership.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
- Working knowledge of SQL and at least one of R, Python or Stata is strongly preferred; familiarity with Tableau or Power BI is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel to various locations to gain a firsthand understanding of ground realities, collaborate with team members, and contribute to MME initiatives.
