Junior Program Associate – Second Chance Program

About Pratham

Pratham Education Foundation (Pratham) is one of the largest education NGOs in India with a record of innovative, rigorously evaluated programs that have inspired similar programs across three continents. With a history spanning 30 years, Pratham’s work today extends from programs for early and elementary years to girls and women, and youth skilling. Through programs covering 24 states and Union Territories, in an average year, Pratham usually reaches over 7 million children and youth. This is achieved through a combination of efforts: directly working with children and youth in communities, as well as through collaborations with state and district-level governments.

Pratham has received notable awards such as the Lui Che Woo Prize, WISE Prize for Innovation, Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Henry R Kravis Prize in Leadership and the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year for Public Service. Pratham also received the 2021 Yidan Prize for Education Development and the Yashraj Bharati Samman in 2025.

About the Second Chance Program

Pratham’s research and experience show that barriers, such as lack of confidence in their abilities, poor or non-existent foundational and applied skills, coupled with a general lack of information about employment and livelihood pathways, life events, and opportunities, influence girls’ and women’s willingness and abilities to seek and access education and employment opportunities. This situation is rooted in and perpetuated by a set of social norms and expectations that frame what is thought of as appropriate behaviors and roles for girls and women. Pratham’s flagship program Second Chance is a year-long intervention that aims to help dropouts, especially girls and women, restart their education and complete secondary schooling. The program provides academic support to learners to help them prepare and appear for the Grade 10 examination through Open Schooling Institutions or State Education Boards; learners also get exposure to life skills and similar co-scholastic modules which can enhance their skillset and help in their personal and professional journey. Started in 2011, the program is operational across 12 states in India and has reached more than 60,000 girls and women. The program is headed by a core team which is based across Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Mumbai.

The Second Chance Program pivoted to an online mode as a response to COVID -19 pandemic, started in 2020 and has grown over the years to give learners more flexible ways to support in continuous learning. By 2023-24, remote classes were being used along with centre-based classes to support learners based on their needs and availability. In 2024, Pratham strengthened its online learning model by developing an LMS. This led to the Pratham Learning Platform (PLP), which brings together learning content, quizzes, assessments and learner progress tracking in one place, suited for both offline and online classes.
